Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – km 104 Chachabamba
Our guide will pick you up along with the transportation at 4:00 a.m. from your hotel, and we will drive approximately 2 hours to the train station to board our train bound for kilometre 104 (Chachabamba) of the railway, from which we will begin our hike, visiting the first archaeological centre called Chachabamba (2,200 m.a.s.l.). After exploring the site, we will continue the route to Wiñaywayna (2,650 m.a.s.l.), where we will also have our guided tour. We will continue our hike to Machu Picchu; you will reach the classic photo spot, passing by Intipunku (Sun Gate), from which we can enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Machu Picchu. Dinner and overnight at the hostel. Afterwards, we will descend by bus to the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night, and before resting, we will have information for the following day.
Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo Cusco
We will wake up very early and have breakfast to start our journey towards the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu (one of the 7 wonders of the modern world). We will tour the entire archaeological group with our guide for an average of 2 and a half hours; we will visit: The Main Plaza, the Intihuatana, the Mortar Room, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Temple of the Condor, and many other points of importance in Machu Picchu. Then, we will have sufficient free time to explore areas of our greatest interest in Machu Picchu on our own. We will then descend to the town of Aguas Calientes; have lunch and board our train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo at the tourist train times of 14:55 or 15:20 Expedition Peru Rail and 14:30 Inca Rail Voyager. Our transportation will pick us up from the train station and drive to the city of Cusco, arriving at our hotel around 7:00 p.m. approximately.
