Day 1: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes
Our tour begins with pick-up from your hotel at 9:00 AM. We will drive to the Ollantaytambo train station, approximately a 1 hour and 40-minute journey. From there, we will board the train to Aguas Calientes, a 1 hour and 45-minute ride, enjoying the spectacular beauty of nature and the abundant flora of the area, passing through the captivating landscape of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Upon arrival at Aguas Calientes, a charming town, hotel staff will meet you at the train station to transfer and check you into the hotel. You will have the afternoon free to explore the town (optional activities include enjoying the thermal baths or visiting the Machu Picchu site museum).
Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco
Early in the morning, after breakfast at the hotel, we will take a 30-minute bus ride from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu. At this archaeological complex, we will immerse ourselves in the enigmatic beauty and unmatched architectural and hydraulic perfection of Inca culture. A guided tour, lasting approximately 2 hours, will provide a detailed historical overview of Machu Picchu and its significance as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.
After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore Machu Picchu further. If you have a ticket for Huayna Picchu, you can visit it during this time. Later, we descend to Aguas Calientes by bus to enjoy a leisurely lunch and sample Peruvian cuisine. In the afternoon, we will take the return train at 2:55 PM or 3:20 PM (Peru Rail Expeditions) to Ollantaytambo. From there, our tourist transport will take you back to Cusco, arriving at your hotel around 7:00 PM.
